Meet Your Neighbors: Russell & Macy
On this edition of Meet Your Neighbors, we caught up with Russell and Dr. Macy Jones, who chose a wonderful apartment at The Ratcliffe Manor on Scott Street. The Jones share their home with their cats Azkadelia and Cosima; actually, the cats let the Jones live there too because they know they are the bosses!
Russell is currently a manager (called a "mate") at Trader Joes in West Little Rock. He grew up in Arkansas and worked in TV news for ten years before moving to Louisiana for Macy to get her Ph.D. at Louisiana State University. Russell is a published author of several fiction and horror anthologies. He is currently working on a novel.
Macy is an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith. She was raised in Arkansas and graduated in 2017 with a Ph.D. in theatre history from LSU. She is also a director and a playwright and worked on several directing projects in Baton Rouge, including the regional premiere of Dolls House Part II. She recently had a play published in The Ponder Review, a literary magazine. Macy loves working in the arts and theatre and is currently researching American theatre history during the great depression. In her spare time, Macy also enjoys cooking and loves baking a fresh loaf of bread.
When the couple moved back to Little Rock from Louisiana, are quickly became enchanted with the downtown neighborhoods and the unique Downtown Dwellings apartments. Russell liked how Jill was so knowledgeable about the properties and the area. He found it easy to talk with Jill about what they were looking for and said she made the process of finding their perfect apartment easy. It was important for Russell to have a home where Macy could feel comfortable working. Macy fell in love with the barn doors in their new apartment and loves hanging out in the bonus room that they made into a TV room and theatre space. She loves how homey the place is and how easy it is to work from home there. Russell loves that their new apartment is close enough to commute to work quickly and right up the street from his brother, who lives in North Little Rock straight up Scott street.
The main reason they chose Downtown and an apartment in a gorgeous historic house is that it didn't feel like a cookie-cutter layout and design. The neighborhood they came from in Baton Rouge was cool, funky, artsy, and historic. They love that Downtown Little Rock also has a unique vibe and is close to everything. Some of their favorite Downtown spots include The Bernice Garden, Community Bakery, all the coffee shops, and they are almost through the entire menu at Three Fold Noodle. The couple are foodies who love to eat, cook, talk about food, and share recipes. Experimenting with new cajun and creole recipes is big for them right now. They want to share their love of food and often host fun dinner parties at their cool new apartment. When they aren't cooking, they love being outdoors, because they missed that in Louisiana. Their favorites are backpacking and hiking at different spots around the natural state.
Be sure and say "hi" next time you see Russell or Macy. You never know, you may get to sample some of their great food or catch a drink and some local food at one of the great neighborhood restaurants!
