Celebrate Mardi Gras in SoMa
This weekend brings warmer weather and with it, SoMa Mardi Gras festivities in Downtown Little Rock! The fun kicks off Saturday with the a pre-parade party at Raduno’s. Grab brunch complete with cucumber mimosas, bloody mary’s, and bottomless hurricanes. Arkansas Photo booth will be there for a fun photo op before the Soma Mardi Gras Parade. Get a costume ready or dress up in your best purple garb and have a little fun on South Main Street! You have to see all the exciting entires in the SoMa Mardi Gras parade that runs from 24th to 12th street and features bands, floats, costumes, beads and more!
Hillis Schild, a SoMa board member who organizes the parade said her favorite part of the parade is all the people. “I love that our neighborhood is the most diverse in the city. On parade day, I am always amazed at all the fun we have together. Of course- the floats, beads, bands and beards ( beard growing contest) are awesome too!”
After the parade, head to the Bernice Garden for The Root Café's 6th Annual Little Rock Beard and Mustache Contest. The contest is a crowd favorite with categories like Best Santa, Best Mustache, Most Original Beard and even a women’s category for Best DIY Crafted Beard. They will have local food trucks on site so you can grab a bite to eat. Wash it down with a beer from the Craft Beer Garden featuring Stone’s Throw Brewery, Lost Forty, The Water Buffalo and Ozark Brewery.
If you can’t get enough of SoMa (I mean, who can?), there more fun events happening this weekend. On Saturday, Bark Bar is hosting a Mardi Paw celebration after the parade. Grab a drink special, Get a selfie with your pet and have fun with furry friends. If you’re looking for some king cake, get a Mardi Gras King Cake Sundae at Loblolly Creamery or a free slice of king cake at Community Bakery.
On Sunday, come back to the creative corridor for more Mardi Gras celebrations! Starting at noon, you can enjoy a crawfish boil and gumbo. Then, grab your pup for the cutest parade in Little Rock begins, the Barkus on Main Mardi Gras Pet Parade, which starts at 7th and main and ends on 4th street. After the parade, the fun concludes with a Block Party hosted by Soul Fish Cafe, Brewski’s Pub & Grub, and CJRW.
